Sole trader invoice requirements in the UK
A sole trader invoice needs the normal UK invoice information plus extra identification details. GOV.UK says sole traders must include their own name, any business name they use and, when using a business name, an address where legal documents can be delivered.
Standard invoice information
Include a unique invoice number, your business and contact details, the customer’s company name and address, what you supplied, the supply date, invoice date, charges, applicable VAT and the total owed.
Sole trader details
Do not use only a trading name and omit your own identity. Include your name and any business name being used. If you use a business name, include an address where legal documents can be delivered.
VAT is a separate question
VAT invoices have additional requirements. Do not charge VAT merely because you are a sole trader; VAT treatment depends on registration and the transaction.
