Do I need to put bank details on an invoice?
Bank details are useful when you want customers to pay by bank transfer, but they are not listed among the standard information GOV.UK says every UK invoice must include. The invoice still needs the required business, customer, date, description and amount information.
What is actually required?
A standard invoice needs a unique identification number, supplier details, customer company name and address, a clear description, supply date, invoice date, amounts charged, VAT where applicable and the total owed.
When bank details help
If bank transfer is your preferred payment method, including the account name, sort code and account number can make payment easier. Treat those as payment instructions rather than a replacement for the required invoice information.
Make the due date obvious
Clear payment terms reduce confusion. Put the payment deadline and accepted payment methods somewhere easy to find.
